What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn't matter?
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.
But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvy’s murder for the show’s second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friend’s murder, even if she is the one that did it.
The truth is out there, if we just listen.
Since I read the summary of this book, in the first days of 2024, I had the feeling it was gonna be a good book... I was wrong.
the plan was to start the book last Friday... yes. A week ago. But I keep putting it back. 2024 like the last 3 years, made me start the year sick. The perfect excuse to just lay down and read. So I was kinda dying in my room and I said to myself... " You know what? just grab the damn book and read it"
It was the best decision ever!
2 pages and I was all in. I had to stop the first-day cause of the fever, but the next day I didn't put it down till I finished it.
Let me clarify one thing here... if you follow me from Instagram at this point you know I have a severe daddy issue
but the whole best friend-keep-secrets-and-it-is-murdered- it's another issue...and it's not DANIKA FENDYR's fault... I had a personal experience to blame. This book got me because of that, cause what I love besides books is true crime videos and podcasts... and this book has both.
Lucy is the main character, she is sarcastic and has a dark humor that I love - and made me feel a little normal cause just like her I most of the time imagine myself killing people in my head ... cause I can't do it in real life. OK. just to be clear. Cause in real life I can't even kill a fly - but even when Ben Owens, the good-looking guy from the podcast, is a character that you will love... GRANDMA BEVERLY is the star of the show.
My dream is to have a pink cute house like hers and be a cool lady at 80 Y/O...
I love that the chapters are short, and its a combination of Lucy POV's and Podcast episodes. Every podcast episode let you thinking of a new suspect, thinking you already have everything solved.. and PAM! Another one jumps to the list and you start to guess again wrong.
In my case, I spent the whole book thinking in just one person, the whole vibe was so suspicious and I said "Here it is. this is the murderer" because I thought I already read a book with the same plot...
I think I've seen this scene before... and I didn't like the ending!"
... and the twist at the last pages comes and my mind goes blank cause I didn't expect that to happen. It was like "The Fury by Alex Michaelides" Clearly, 2024 has blessed me with amazing books this January cause I had the chills the whole time I was reading it.
If you love Thriller, Mystery, and Murder books you can't miss this one, I assure you, you will love it.
